How Did I Get The Name of DJ Out There or DJ O.T.?

I came by the stage handler name of DJ Out There or DJ O.T. because of the first two letters of my first name.  When I was a small child, my grandmother would call me Otis Tee and I thought she was saying O.T. , so I began to go by O.T.  when I got older.

It was in 1979, when I started public DJing at The Strato Club, that I began to go by DJ Out There.  I recall there was a special time at The Strato Club that one of my classmate and fellow airman had showed up.  While he was on the dance floor, I asked him over the microphone if he knew what O.T.I.S. stood for.  He didn't know, so I told him and the crowd that it stood for - Out There In Space (O.T.I.S.).  Since then, he is the only person who has called me by that stage handler's name.

So my DJ name is synonymous to my real name.  Thus, being the Air Force and being a DJ just made it more realistic.  To me, DJing is my sport.  I enjoy seeing the crowd of people having a good, clean and fun time.
